PERMANENT EYELINER - Eyeliner Tattoos: Cool or Too Painful

I have really been considering permanent eyeliner but there a few things holding me back from jumping on board and getting my eyeliner tattoos done. First off there's the issue of pain (anybody that tells you that tattoos don't hurt at least a little, depending on the area of application, is lying to you!) and I'm a sissy when it comes to pain. The idea of a tattoo artist working my wrist, my arm or my ankle is one thing, but the idea of burning sensations on my sensitive eyelid is slightly more daunting.

Why would a panty waist such as myself even consider getting an eyeliner tattoo?

EXCELLENT REASONS TO GET PERMANENT EYELINER

REASON 1. I am afraid that I'm going to have crepey (read: creepy) eyelids if I keep pulling them tight in the everyday process of eyeliner application.

REASON 2. I hate those smudgy raccoon eyes that must be dealt with the morning after. We don't always have it in us to practice proper skincare procedures at 2am, do we?

REASON 3. A tattoo would naturally be the best waterproof eyeliner ever!

So what's holding me back on getting tattoos on my eyelids?

EYELINER TATTOO NEGATIVES

REASON 1. The possibility of pain. I understand that some artists apply a numbing gel, but why do some of my friends say it hurt like hell and others say that the painkilling concoction does the trick?

REASON 2. I am told that the ink has a tendency to fade and the application of cover up eyeliner may be necessary to make your eyes always seem even and identical

REASON 3. I worry that what I want today in eyeliner fashions may go out of style and I'll be stuck with a Cleopatra eyeliner technique when the trends run toward a minimalist or natural look.

I would like to hear your opinions. Vote yes or no or whatever; just tell me what I should do before all of the elasiticity goes out of my eyelids!

BEST GEL EYELINER TIPS and TECHNIQUES

Not being blessed with lovely, large eyes and long lashes has pushed me to be pretty dependent on eyeliner. I once considered giving permanent eyeliner tattoos a shot but chickened out; I was that sick of eyeliner that had no need for an eyeliner smudger. It smudged, creased and ran very well all on its own. It just never stayed put.

For a eyeliner styles that give a smokey look with undefined edges, it's hard to beat pencils or crayons if you are brave. But it's just hard to beat liquid color applied with a brush for a dramatic look. For a retro look, I have used a technique that involved a broad band of white and a thin black line closer to my lashes. Lookout Twiggy, we're going back to the 60s!

If you exercise or shed the occasional tear you will appreciate gel eyeliner. Even the worst gel outpaces the BEST old time liquids for staying power. The best liquid gel eyeliner that I've tried so far is the Bobbi Brown eyeliner gel.

Here are some eyeliner tips that may make applying eyeliner a less stressful event:

  • Coat both sides of the brush evenly. Don't just put the product on one side.

  • Be certain not to load the brush to heavily. Wipe off excess ahead of time to avoid globs of liner where you don't want it

  • Work from the inner corner of your eyelid to the outer edges.

  • Make short, steady strokes to carry your color across the lid.

The only complaints that I have about this brand of gel eyeliner are that the product dried up pretty quickly (Smashbox's product was just as bad) and the second thing is that it takes a really good eye makeup remover to get it off. This is both what I love about gel eyeliner and what I hate about it....I love that it stays on but I hate the effort it takes to remove it.

HOW TO APPLY EYELINER like AMY WINEHOUSE

Whenever a celebrity breaks out with bold, black eye makeup we are hit with loads of questions on how to apply eyeliner. The average lady might not want to wear such dramatic black eyeliner during the day or for that matter; every evening. But the principals of applying eyeliner are basically the same no matter whether you prefer wide eyeliner designs, smudged lines or a thin almost invisible look.

Many instructional videos are filled with helpful tips and techniques including more dramatic styles such as is preferred by many movie stars to highlight their eyes when on the stage as well as singing or rock stars like Amy Winehouse.

The use of eyeliner is not limited to girls, some male stars like the look of heavy black eyeliner on the top lid as well as under their bottom lashes. There may be as many men or more buying instructions on how to apply eyeliner as most moms don't think that their parenting duties extend to giving their boys lessons on the art of makeup application.

FORMAL EYE MAKEUP TIPS from TAYLOR SWIFT'S TEARS ON MY GUITAR VIDEO

Taylor Swift's eyes looked fabulous in the Tears on My Guitar music video. The appearance was very formal but almost gothic with the wayt that the liner was drawn. I knew that we needed some ideas and pointers, but I didn't have a clue on where to find resources and instructions for individual stars makeup colors. Then I found this free video giving eye make up tips so that our eyes can be just as pretty as Taylor Swift's!

The makeup artist appears to have hazel green cat eyes and the smokey, dramatic eye makeup simply looks stunning on her. Plus, she makes it look so darn easy! One of the tricks that I see her use that I've simply got to put into place is that she doesn't dab around with small brushes; she has giant fine, hair brushes and she isn't afraid to use them. The results look very professional, seamless and smooth.
